The Listening Room is a new Opus Nova series that expands our musical world beyond the classical repertoire, bringing bluegrass, folk, jazz, and other musical traditions into the intimate Opus Nova setting. These concerts offer an opportunity to hear different styles of music up close and discover the connections that bring them together.
We are thrilled to launch the series with Siona, the duo of violinist and fiddler Molly Baer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Weldy. Drawing from bluegrass, Irish, Scandinavian, and American folk music, Siona brings together fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and skandola in a program that reveals the fascinating connections between these traditions.
The concert takes place in a private home in Fort Worth. Doors open at 6:45 PM for a light pre-concert reception, with an opportunity to mingle and settle in before the music begins. The performance starts at 7:30 PM and unfolds without intermission, offering an intimate, uninterrupted listening experience. Tickets are $50 per person.
Musicians
Ben Weldy is a versatile musician who draws upon a diverse musical background. A multi–instrumentalist, composer/arranger, songwriter and recording artist whose music spans the genre gamut; from classical to jazz, blues, Celtic and other folk traditions. Whether playing guitar, mandolin, bass guitar, or Skandola – first and foremost, Ben is an ardent improvisor with a playful approach to music and music making.
Equally at home in a jazz combo, blues jam, Celtic pub session, or the concert stage, Ben has performed across the U.S. with a vast array of collaborators, ensembles, and orchestras including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. As a songwriter and recording artist, Ben has recorded his original music in Boston, Nashville, and Dallas.
Ben was a guitar performance major at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA with an emphasis on jazz and other contemporary idioms. Prior to that he studied French horn and Music Composition at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. He maintains an active private music lesson studio comprised of students of all ages. And he is a member of Folk Alliance International.

Molly Baer joined the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in 2012. Before moving to Texas, Molly was a violin fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. She graduated from the New England Conservatory in Boston as a student of Miriam Fried, and received her Master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music, where she studied with Andrés Cárdenes. Since moving to Fort Worth, Molly has participated in frequent chamber music performances with local ensembles and festivals. She has performed with Spectrum Chamber Music Society, Hall Ensemble, the Basically Beethoven Festival, Opus Nova, and Sedici Strings, a string quartet made up of colleagues in the Fort Worth Symphony. She also teaches a private studio of violin students and has enjoyed coaching young chamber musicians for the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra. |
