For the second concert in The Listening Room, Opus Nova turns to jazz. Saxophonist Paul Zaborac leads a trio in an intimate evening of jazz classics, improvisation, and the spontaneous interplay that makes live jazz so compelling.
Drawing from the rich tradition of jazz, the program brings together memorable melodies, swinging rhythms, and opportunities for the musicians to respond to one another in the moment. Rather than simply reproducing familiar recordings, the trio brings its own voices to the music, allowing each performance to unfold through conversation and improvisation.
In the intimate Opus Nova setting, audiences can experience jazz up close—the interplay between saxophone, piano, and bass, the subtle changes in rhythm and harmony, and the creative decisions that happen in real time.
The concert takes place in a private home in Fort Worth. Doors open at 6:45 PM for a light pre-concert reception, with an opportunity to mingle and settle in before the music begins. The performance starts at 7:30 PM and unfolds without intermission, offering an intimate, uninterrupted listening experience. Tickets are $50 per person.

Well versed in both classical and jazz saxophone, Paul Zaborac seamlessly bridges musical boundaries as a creative performer and musician. He has recorded and produced several jazz albums featuring all original compositions, including Actualize, Paul Zaborac Quartet: Live, and Long Way Out, and collaborated on a classical album, Russian Romantic Music for Saxophone and Piano, featuring his original arrangements. Paul has performed internationally in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Costa Rica, and Australia, and has appeared on the Ratchet Series at the Skylark in Chicago, the Saxquest Concert Artist Series in St. Louis, Dazzle Jazz in Denver, and The Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey, California. He has also appeared with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra. He has had the opportunity to share the stage with notable jazz musicians such as Rufus Reid, Tia Fuller, John Von Ohlen, Everett Greene, Brad Goode, Greg Gisbert, Stan Sulzmann, Chad Eby, Stockton Helbing, Paul McKee, Ernie Watts, and Michael Dease. Paul has been a visiting professor at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music and coached saxophone students at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is regularly invited to present performances and masterclasses at schools, including Drake University, The University of Texas at Arlington, Colorado State University, The Denver School of the Arts, and the Taipei American School, among others. As a co-founder and artistic director of the Scheherazade Music Festival he has premiered multiple new works by modern composers for innovative mixed chamber ensembles. Dr. Zaborac holds degrees from Simpson College, The Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia, and The University of Colorado Boulder. Currently based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Paul regularly performs throughout the metroplex.
